Jane Austen Doorway Bath

The Georgian town house is now famous by its association to Jane Austen.
Jane Austen (1775 – 1817) spent a great deal of her adult life in Bath.

Built of Bath stone the terraced row leads up to the circus and The Royal Crescent. Living here one could not help but engage in and observe Bath society as featured in many of her novels.

This model was developed as Tim wished to include the house of one of Baths most famous inhabitants. The pediment over the doorway is covered in beaten lead, a detail replicated in them model.

10 Downing Street London

The name and specifically the door are infamous and iconic being the symbol of the highest political office.

Formerly the site of the Axe Brewery, the site was built up in the
development by Mr Downing, an early graduate of Harvard University, Massachusetts whose turncoat wranglings during and after the English Civil War 16… 16…, assured his survival and wealth but earned him few friends.

A century later the first First Minister ….Walpole moved into the dark brick terrace beginning a political association as home and office of the
Prime Minister of Great Britain.

The initials WM (for William and Mary) are shown above the doorway on the central shield or “cartouche”.
